Part-Time Laboratory Assistant/Technician
Novome is building genetically engineered microbial medicines (GEMMs) that perform defined activities in the human gut to treat chronic diseases. We have developed the first platform for controlled colonization of the gut with engineered therapeutic bacteria and are applying this to multiple disease areas as well as expanding our platform capabilities. We are focusing current research efforts on making a microbial cell therapy to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
We are seeking a part-time Laboratory Assistant to help with daily operations in Novome's 30-person laboratory. Working in close collaboration with the Laboratory Operations team, the Lab Tech will be responsible for tasks that enable day-to-day lab functions such as maintaining stock solution supplies, liquid and solid media prep, lab supply inventory, and washing and autoclaving glassware. Eager to learn and exceptional attention to detail, the ideal candidate will fulfill critical tasks efficiently and jump in where needed to optimize the systems, processes, and procedures they interact with. They will contribute to our dynamic, collaborative, transparent environment by using a growth mindset to learn new skills and respond to and provide critical feedback.

Responsibilities
- Performing basic laboratory support functions including:
- Preparation of solid and liquid bacterial media
- Washing and autoclaving glassware
- Preparation of stock solutions including antibiotics, and media supplements
- Routine maintenance of lab equipment
- General cleaning and organization of lab space
- Receiving and logging deliveries
- Using our Electronic Lab Notebook system to keep detailed records
- Contributing to additional laboratory support functions as needed
Key Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Experience in a laboratory setting through coursework or previous role in a scientific laboratory, quality control, healthcare, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization, and attention to detail; highly conscientious
- High standards for the quality of their work
- Open to giving and receiving critical feedback
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to engage in significant standing, walking, moving, carrying, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, including moving and lifting up to 45 lbs
